From its inception in 1993, Gaea Foundation has emphasized funding that brings marginalized voices into public dialogue and engenders activism and radical change. Gaea’s grant-making has focused particularly on activism and arts; girls’ and youth empowerment; global justice and the international women's movement; lesbian/sexual minorities; community organizing; and national progressive strategies.
Following a visioning and planning process beginning in 2000, Gaea initiated the Provisions Library and Sea Change Residencies to employ foundation resources strategically and actively in disseminating and integrating alternative viewpoints, voices and possibilities for deep social change.
